Dynamic content delivery: For a student who makes a mistake, the system can provide an additional explanation in the form of a video, a series of simpler drag-and-drop exercises, or an interactive quiz. Pillar 2: Unlimited and stress-free conversational practice

Problem: The biggest barrier to learning a language is the fear of speaking – fear of being judged, making a mistake or being ridiculed. Lesson time is limited, and the teacher is not able to conduct an individual, 15-minute conversation with each of the 30 students.

AI solution: A chatbot for conversation, based on advanced language models (like those powering ChatGPT or Gemini), becomes a patient, available 24/7 and completely non-judgmental conversation partner. It is a revolution in breaking the language barrier.

Safe Environment: A student can make hundreds of mistakes, and the AI will not evaluate him. This psychological freedom is key to unlocking fluency in speaking. The so-called “affective filter”, which, according to Stephen Krashen’s theory, blocks language acquisition, disappears.

Simulations of real-world scenarios: The possibilities are endless. A student can practice ordering coffee in Paris, conducting business negotiations in London or talking to a doctor in Madrid. AI can role-play, ask questions, and react naturally to a given situation.

Instant Correction and Suggestions: Modern chatbots not only conduct a conversation, but also offer feedback. After the dialogue, the student can receive a transcript with errors highlighted and suggestions for what phrases they could use to make it sound more natural.

Pronunciation training: More and more tools offer phonetic analysis. The student utters a sentence, and the AI evaluates its pronunciation, intonation, and accent, indicating specific sounds to improve.

Thanks to chatbots, the practice of speaking becomes not a privilege, but an everyday tool available to everyone.

Pillar 3: Intelligent Generation and Differentiation of Teaching Materials

Problem: Preparing compulsive, up-to-date and varied exercises is one of the most time-consuming tasks of a teacher. Creating separate versions of tasks for different levels in one class is often a logistical nightmare.

Problem: Effective learning requires regular and quick feedback. A student who receives a proven written work after a week often no longer remembers his line of reasoning.

AI Solution: Artificial intelligence closes the feedback loop almost immediately.

Automatic checking: AI systems can automatically grade closed-ended tasks, grammar and lexical tests, freeing the teacher from mechanical checking.

Advanced text analysis: Tools like Grammarly for Education go a step further. They analyze essays in terms of not only grammatical and spelling correctness, but also style, clarity, consistency of argumentation and potential plagiarism. Importantly, they not only point out errors, but also explain why a given design is incorrect.

Support, not handling: The key is to use these tools so that they teach, not do the work for the student. It’s a good practice to require students to write the text on their own first before using an AI tool to edit it, analyzing and learning from suggested corrections.

The theory is fascinating, but how do you start applying it to your daily work? Here are specific, practical steps.

ChatGPT is an extremely versatile and accessible tool. Instead of treating it as a threat (risk of plagiarism), let’s treat it as an inexhaustible source of inspiration.

Lesson planning: Ask: “Design an interactive, 45-minute English lesson at B1 level on the topic of ‘fast fashion’. Include a short YouTube video, a couple discussion, a new vocabulary exercise, and a creative homework assignment to design an ethical t-shirt.”

Generating story starters: Ask: “Create five different crime story beginnings for students at B2 level. Each beginning should contain at least three idioms related to mystery or lies.” The students draw a lot and continue the story.

Debate Simulator: Divide the class into two groups. Ask ChatGPT to compile a list of 5 solid arguments for and 5 “against” the thesis: “Social media have a positive impact on teenagers’ lives.” Students use these arguments as a basis for preparing and conducting a debate.

AI Translations at School: How to Turn an Enemy into an Ally?

The battle against automatic translators is lost in advance. Instead, let’s teach students to use them wisely.

  • Beat the Machine exercise: Have students translate a text full of idioms, cultural nuances, or wordplay. Then ask them to translate it using, for example, DeepL. Compare the results. This lesson will clearly show where the machine fails and how important context and human understanding are.

  • Translator as a verification tool: Teach your student to write a paragraph on their own first and then use a translator to test their proposal, analyzing the differences and learning more natural constructions.

  • Glossary of synonyms and collocations on steroids: Show your students that the translator can be used to instantly find alternative words or common word combinations (collocations), enriching their language.
