Your goal is to create materials that resonate with every student. This is where AI becomes your personal teaching assistant.

  • Idea Generation: Instead of spending hours looking for inspiration, you type a command into an AI tool (e.g. ChatGPT, Gemini): “I’m a 5th grade history teacher. Give me 5 creative ideas for a 45-minute lesson on everyday life in ancient Egypt that engages students.” In response, you get ready-made scenarios: from “A Day in the Life of an Egyptian Child” to “The Judgment of Osiris in the Classroom”.
  • Creating Diverse Content: You choose an idea. Now ask the AI: “Create a short (200 words) text about Egyptian beliefs for an 11-year-old. Then create a simplified version of this text (100 words) using simpler vocabulary for a student with reading difficulties.” In a minute, you have materials ready for the whole class.
  • Automatic Quiz Creation: Finally, you throw the command: “Based on the text above, create a quiz with 5 single-choice questions and an answer key to test your understanding of the material.” The quiz to summarize the lesson is ready.

The implementation of AI is not only an individual initiative of the teacher, but a strategic decision of the entire institution. Directors and governing bodies need to think systemically to make the transition effective and fair. Here are the key pillars of school preparation:

1. Developing a Vision and Strategy: Instead of chaotically buying access to various tools, the school should answer the question: “What do we want to achieve with AI?”. Is our goal to relieve teachers? Or maybe increasing student engagement or better support for students with special needs? A clearly defined goal will allow for a wise choice of technology.

2. Invest in Teacher Professional Development: The best technology is useless if the staff can’t use it. It is crucial to organize practical trainings, workshops and create spaces for the exchange of experiences. Training teachers in AI is not a cost, but the most important investment.

3. Creating an Acceptable Use Policy (AUP): The school must develop clear rules for the ethical use of AI. This document should specify when and how students can use generative tools, what the AI citation rules are, and what the consequences are for plagiarism. This gives teachers and students a sense of security and a clear framework for action.

4. Providing Infrastructure and Equal Access: Effective AI implementation requires reliable internet access and appropriate devices. The school must make sure that no child is excluded due to a lack of equipment.

5. Open Dialogue with the Community – Especially with Parents: Many parents share the same concerns as teachers. Organizing information meetings, workshops and sending materials (such as this article!) will help build trust and show that the school approaches the topic in a thoughtful and responsible way.
