Fields of study – what is worth studying? A guide for candidates
How to choose the perfect degree program?
Choosing the right educational path is one of the most important decisions in a young person’s life. When exploring available study programs, it is worth considering not only your current interests and aptitude but also the job market situation. A well-chosen program should combine your passion with real career and financial prospects after graduation.
What should you consider before applying?
- Study program and syllabus: Check exactly which subjects you will be studying and whether the university focuses on theory or practice (e.g., workshops, laboratories).
- Career prospects: Find out what professions you can pursue after a given degree and whether there is market demand for such specialists.
- Entry requirements and admission criteria: Make sure you know which high school final exam (matura) subjects are weighted most heavily during the admissions process for your chosen program.
Most popular and future-proof study programs
The range of courses offered by Polish universities spans many disciplines. If you aren’t sure where to start your search, take a look at the areas that are currently in highest demand:
- Technical and IT programs: Computer Science, Automation and Robotics, Cybersecurity, and Data Engineering. These have been the most profitable sectors for years, with a guarantee of employment.
- Medical and health-related programs: Medicine, Dentistry, Physiotherapy, and Nursing. Careers in these fields are synonymous with stability and prestige.
- Economic and business programs: Management, Finance and Accounting, Logistics, and Business Analysis. Perfect for those who see themselves working in international corporations or who want to run their own business.
- Humanities and social sciences: Psychology, Law, Modern Languages, and Marketing and Communication. An excellent choice for those with strong soft skills.
Tip for candidates: Don’t limit yourself to traditional names only. Universities are increasingly launching modern, interdisciplinary study programs that combine, for example, humanities with new technologies (such as AI in communication).
Bachelor’s degree vs. Engineering degree
When choosing an undergraduate program, remember the difference in professional titles. A licencjat (Bachelor’s degree) in humanities or economics typically lasts 3 years (6 semesters). In contrast, an engineering degree (inżynier) at technical universities lasts 3.5 years (7 semesters) and places greater emphasis on STEM subjects and technical projects.
