They look beautiful in photos on advertising portals: high ceilings, large windows, original parquet and an atmosphere “with a soul”. However, living in such a building every day is associated with specific challenges that are rarely mentioned in standard guides.

High ceilings (often over 3.2 meters) mean that a room with an area of 15 m² has a much larger volume than an analogous room in a block of flats made of large slabs (where the ceiling is at a height of 2.5 m).

• Baggage/technical tunnel (old): Located closer to the viaduct on Hallera Street. It is narrower, cooler and hardly anyone uses it if they are not taking the train. This is the fastest way to go from Wyspiańskiego Street directly to Towarowa Street, bypassing the main crowd at the station.

2. Shortcut from the Gdańsk University of Technology campus to Górny Wrzeszcz (Jaśkowa Dolina)

Walking from the ETI Faculty or the Main Building of Gdańsk Tech towards the charming areas of Jaśkowa Dolina, you don’t have to walk around the crowded Do Studzienki Street.

• Alternative route: Take a shortcut through the charming Sobótki Street. You will pass the historic, pre-war buildings and immediately go to the height of the Forest Theatre and the Jaśkowa Valley. It is a much quieter, safer and more pleasant route for pedestrians and cyclists.

3. Quick transition from tram to SKM

Many students get off at the tram stop “Galeria Bałtycka” and walk to the SKM Wrzeszcz station along a busy street.

• Faster option: Get off at the “Klonowa” stop (right next to the Ronda de Gaulle’a campus). The road from there to the station leads through a promenade full of bakeries and service points, is better sheltered from the wind and takes less time.

A guide to the streets of Wrzeszcz

Before you decide to rent a room on a specific street, check its real acoustic and logistical specifics. Two streets 100 meters apart can offer a completely different living comfort.

Grunwaldzka Avenue (Main Axis)

• Noise: Very high. Rooms with windows overlooking Grunwaldzka Street mean that it is not possible to sleep with an open window. In summer, the noise of motorcycles and trams can be a nuisance.

• Characteristics: Typical student districts. The streets are relatively quiet at night (except for Thursday returns from Kwadratowa), and the proximity to the university means that you can get up 15 minutes before the lecture. These are some of the most desirable locations in Przymorze/Wrzeszcz.

Jaśkowa Dolina Street (upper part)

One of the most beautiful streets in Gdańsk, surrounded by forests and historic villas.

• Characteristics: Very quiet, green and prestigious.
• Student Catch: The street climbs steeply uphill. If you rent a room at the very top (closer to Piecek-Migowa), in winter it will be quite a physical challenge to walk up the icy pavement with a heavy backpack.

Is it easy to get a place in the academics of the Gdańsk University of Technology in Wrzeszcz?

Places in the Gdańsk Tech Nursing Homes (located mainly at Wyspiańskiego and Do Studzienki Streets) are awarded on the basis of income criteria and distance from the place of residence. Priority is given to older students with a high average and newly admitted students from distant corners of Polish. Prices in DSs are much lower than renting a room on the private market, which makes the competition high.

In the academic year 2026/2027, Gdańsk Wrzeszcz remains the best address for students who value a dynamic, urban lifestyle, proximity to universities and excellent communication.
