Tri-City Dormitories 2026/2027 – prices, recruitment and the ultimate dorm ranking

Tri-City Dormitories 2026/2027 – prices, recruitment and the ultimate dorm ranking

The fight for a place in a dormitory in Gdańsk or Gdynia for the academic year 2026/2027 begins much earlier than the matriculation calendar assumes. With galloping private rental prices in districts such as Wrzeszcz, Oliwa or Przymorze, student dormitories are becoming the only rational financial alternative. However, you need to know that Tri-City universities – Gdańsk University of Technology (Gdańsk University of Technology), University of Gdańsk (UG), Medical University of Gdańsk (MUG) and Naval Academy (AMW) – use strict point systems, in which not only your income counts, but also the distance from your place of permanent residence calculated by SKM route or railway connections.

Gdańsk University of Technology Dormitory – price and standards

If your destination is Gdańsk University of Technology dormitory, the price per room in 2026/2027 will directly depend on the standard of the selected facility and the number of people in the room. Gdańsk Tech has one of the most compact complexes – the Student Town in lower Wrzeszcz (near Wyspiańskiego and Trębacka Streets).

Accommodation costs for PG 2026/2027

Forecasted rates for the upcoming academic year indicate an increase of about 10-15% compared to previous years, which results from the costs of operating the infrastructure.

  • Single room (single): 850 – 1100 PLN per month.
  • Double room: 650 – 800 PLN per person.
  • Room in a box layout (shared bathroom for 2-4 rooms): approx. 750 PLN.

The Gdańsk University of Technology Student Town consists of buildings from DS1 to DS10. The highest standard after thorough overhauls is offered by DS1, DS2 and DS3. If you want silence and better conditions, aim for these numbers, but remember that the competition for them is the greatest. DS11 and DS12 are located in Brzezno – although they are further from the main campus, they offer proximity to the beach, which is important in September and June, but cumbersome in winter due to commuting by tram line 3 or 5.

Recruitment process on MojaPG

You handle all formalities through the MojaPG portal. The key date for newcomers is usually August. You must declare your income per person in the family and the distance from Gdańsk. In 2026, the system will automatically verify the distance based on digital maps – don’t try to stretch the kilometers, because verification is merciless.

DS University of Gdańsk – locations from Oliwa to Sopot

The DS system of the University of Gdańsk is much more dispersed than at the University of Technology. The university has student dormitories in Oliwa, Sopot and Żabianka. The location of your faculty determines which dormitory will be most convenient for you, however, the allocation is decided by a central committee.

Best UG Student Houses

  1. DS 4 and DS 5 (Oliwa): They are located directly on the main campus on Wita Stwosza Street. This is where the heart of the university beats. The standard is diverse, but the proximity of the faculties of Biology, Chemistry or Law makes these places the most desirable.
  2. DS 7, DS 8, DS 9 (Sopot): Ideal for students of Economics and Management. They are located close to the SKM Sopot station, which gives great communication with the entire Tri-City, but remember that Sopot is expensive and noisy during the academic season.
  3. SS 10 (Gdańsk-Wrzeszcz): A state-of-the-art facility, with a standard similar to private dormitories. Rooms here are more expensive (often over 1000 PLN for a “one”), but the comfort is incomparably higher.

USOSweb rules at UG

At the University of Gdańsk, you submit applications for a dormitory through the USOSweb system Remember about the “turns” of recruitment. If you miss the first round in July/August, your chances of getting a room in Oliwa drop to zero, leaving only places in Sopot or remote locations.

Gdynia Morska Student Dormitory – options for AMW students and faculties Gdynia

If your studies take place in Gdynia, the situation is different. The main point of reference is the Gdynia Morska student dormitory and the infrastructure of the Naval Academy (AMW).

Naval Academy (AMW) – Oksywie

Civilian students of the AMW can count on accommodation in student dormitories at Śmidowicza Street (Oksywie).

  • Standard: 2- and 3-bed rooms in the box system.
  • Price: It is one of the cheapest options in the Tri-City, with rates often starting at as little as PLN 550 for a place in a dormitory room.
  • Logistics: Oksywie is specific – the lack of SKM connection means dependence on ZKM Gdynia buses (lines 150, 152, 128). It takes about 15-20 minutes to get to the center of Gdynia.

Dormitories of the University of Gdańsk in Gdynia

The University of Gdańsk also has its DS 3 in Gdynia, which is dedicated mainly to students of the Institute of Oceanography. The location close to Kosciuszko Square is brilliant in terms of prestige, but the building is of an older type, which is worth taking into account when planning 2026/2027.

Cost comparison: Dormitory vs. Dormitory Private rental in Tri-City

In 2026, the price difference between a dormitory in Gdańsk and a room in a student apartment will be record-breaking.

  • Single room in Przymorze (private): 1600 – 2200 PLN + utilities.
  • Single room in DS PG/UG: 850 – 1150 PLN (utilities usually included).

By choosing a dormitory, you save about PLN 800-1000 per month. For the entire academic year, this amounts to nearly PLN 10,000, which is a decisive argument for most students. However, you should remember about the deposit – in Tri-City dormitories, it is usually the equivalent of one or two months’ rent and is rigorously settled when moving out.

Criteria for awarding places – how not to fall out in the first round?

In 2026, the USOS and MojaPG systems will score even more strongly on two parameters:

  1. Net income per person: You must have up-to-date certificates from the Tax Office. If your income is slightly above the threshold, check the deductibility of alimony or documented losses.
  2. Distance from the university: What matters is the distance from where you are registered, not where you are actually staying. If you live in Tczew, Wejherowo or Pruszcz Gdański, your chances of getting a dormitory are close to zero – universities consider that SKM’s access is within the norm.

Bonus points and special situations

You can earn additional points for:

  • Orphanhood or a difficult family situation.
  • Disability (dormitories such as DS10 UG or DS1 PG have specially adapted rooms).
  • Activity in scientific clubs or local government (applies mainly to people applying for an extension of their stay for another year).

What exactly to do to get a place in a dormitory?

Follow the list below to avoid mistakes that eliminate 20% of applications in the Tri-City:

  • Create an account in the admissions system immediately after receiving the admission decision. At Gdańsk University of Gdańsk Tech and UG, you only have a time window of several days in July or August.
  • Download your income certificates as early as June. Queues at tax offices can delay your application, and university systems do not accept translations about “waiting for a document”.
  • Check the route carefully. If you live in a town where PKM or SKM commutes, check how the university calculates travel time. Sometimes 50 km by train counts differently than 40 km by bus.
  • Apply for a specific dormitory, not for a “place anywhere”. If you are studying at MUG, aim for DS at Dębniki Street. If you are at the Faculty of Architecture of Gdańsk Tech – aim for DS1-DS4. You will avoid wasting time commuting through the entire city.
  • Prepare funds for the deposit. You often have to pay it within 7 days of a positive decision to confirm your seat reservation.

Private student residences in Gdansk and their real costs

If you don’t get the DS University of Gdańsk or you run out of points in the recruitment process at Gdańsk Tech, your only chance to avoid “castings” with private owners is private student dormitories. In the Tri-City, this market is already mature in 2026, and facilities such as Student Depot (Przymorze), BaseCamp (Wrzeszcz/Śródmieście) or Collegia (Wrzeszcz) offer a premium standard, for which, however, you have to pay a lot.

Private dormitory vs. university dormitory – financial knockout?

The price difference is drastic, but in private facilities you do not pass income verification.

  • Student Depot Gdańsk (near UG): A single studio in 2026 costs about PLN 2400 – 2900.
  • Collegium (opposite the Gdańsk University of Technology): Prices start from 2200 PLN for a place in a double room of a higher standard.
  • BaseCamp (close to the Main Railway Station and MUG): Here the rates are the highest, often exceeding PLN 3000 for a room with a private kitchen.

By choosing a private dormitory, you get no problems with the “summer action” – contracts are usually signed for 12 months, so you don’t have to move out in July. If your budget allows for such an expense, book a place as early as March or April 2026. In June, only the most expensive apartments remain in these facilities.

Appeal procedure – how to win a seat when the system said “NO”

Receiving a negative decision in the USOSweb or MojaPG system is not the end of the road. In the Tri-City, the so-called “second line” and the appeal process, which is based on the resignations of people who have been admitted to studies in other cities, are crucial.

Effective appeal step by step

You must justify the request for reconsideration of the case with a change in your life situation or an incorrect assessment of the distance.

  1. Document the change in income: If your parents’ financial situation deteriorated between July and September (loss of job, illness), attach certificates. This is the strongest argument for the Scholarship Appeal Committee.
  2. Take advantage of system errors: Google Maps sometimes shows a shorter route through roads that are not served by public transport. Prove that your real commute to the Gdańsk University of Technology dormitory by public transport exceeds 90-120 minutes.
  3. Reserve List: Many people give up their dormitory in the first week of October, when they are frightened by the conditions in older DSs. Be in constant contact with the administrator of a specific student dormitory (e.g. DS 5 UG or DS 7 PG). Often it is them, and not the system, who have knowledge about free “beds” resulting from rotation.

MUG – the specificity of the dormitories of the Medical University of Gdańsk

Medical students in Gdańsk have their own accommodation base, located mainly in the vicinity of Dębowa and Maria Skłodowska-Curie streets. MUG dormitories are strategically located close to the University Clinical Center (UCK).

DS 1, DS 2, DS 3, DS 4 MUG – what to choose?

  • DS 4: The most desired by medical students. It is closest to the lecture halls and the hospital. The rooms here are of a higher standard, but the recruitment is extremely strict.
  • Prices: They are similar to the rates at Gdańsk Tech. A place in the “two” costs about 700 PLN.
  • Rigor of Learning: In medical dormitories, there is a specific atmosphere of “silence at night” lasting almost around the clock before exam sessions. If you’re looking for a party life, a medic may disappoint you.

Hidden costs of living in a dormitory – what is not mentioned in the price list?

The price given in the Gdańsk University of Technology dormitory system is only the basics. In 2026, universities are increasingly introducing additional fees resulting from the energy crisis and labour costs.

What do you need to prepare a budget for?

  1. Washing and drying: In most DS PG and UG washing machines are paid for by app (e.g. AppWash). The cost of one wash is 6-10 PLN. With 4 washes a month, it is an additional 40 PLN.
  2. Refrigerator/appliance fee: Some older DSs (especially at UG) charge a lump sum for using their own refrigerator in the room (approx. 20-30 PLN/month).
  3. Deposit for bed linen and keys: When you check in, you must pay a refundable deposit for your access card and inventory. This is a one-time cost of about PLN 100-200.
  4. Electricity surcharges: In 2026, some Tri-City universities are testing a system of meters in rooms. If you exceed the set kWh limit (e.g. using an electric kettle and a powerful gaming PC), you will have to pay the difference.

Life in DS from the inside – logistics and survival rules

Living in a student dormitory in Gdynia or Gdańsk is not just a cheap room, it’s a specific logistics. Tri-City dormitories have their own unique features.

  • Eduroam: It’s your window to the world. Make sure you have your account set up before you arrive. At UG and Gdańsk Tech, this network operates in every building, which allows you to learn in day-care centers and DS libraries without using your own data package.
  • Box vs corridor system: In DS University of Gdańsk (e.g. in Żabianka) you will often encounter a corridor system (one shared kitchen and bathroom for the entire floor). This is the cheapest, but also the most difficult option in terms of privacy. The box system (2 rooms for 1 bathroom) is a standard in Gdańsk Tech and in newer UG DSs.
  • Bicycle and SKM Stations: If you plan to get around by bike, check the availability of a bike room. In Gdańsk, theft of bicycles in front of dormitories is a plague. It is best to keep the equipment inside the building. On the other hand, the proximity of the SKM Gdańsk Politechnika or Gdańsk Oliwa stations is your biggest logistical advantage – it allows you to reach the event in Sopot in 15 minutes.

What exactly should I check before signing the accommodation protocol?

Once you get your dream key to a room in a student dormitory in Gdynia Morska or Wrzeszcz in Gdańsk, don’t sign the papers blindly. In 2026, universities are very strict about the damage.

  • Condition of windows: Check if it is windy. In winter, in dormitories near the sea (Brzeźno, Oksywie), the wind can drastically cool the room.
  • Inventory: Count every shelf and chair. If there is a desk in the protocol that is not physically there, you will pay for it when you move out.
  • Moisture and fungus: In older buildings of the University of Gdańsk in Przymorze, check the angles behind the bed. If you smell musty, demand the intervention of the administration or change of room immediately – your health is more important than cheap sleep.

Accommodation procedures and “day zero” – the logistics of onboarding to the DS

Coming to a dormitory in Gdańsk or Gdynia for 2026/2027 is an operation for which you have to reserve a whole day. Tri-City universities have moved away from paper lists, but the process of physically taking over the room still requires personal appearance. If you have been assigned to the Gdańsk University of Technology Student Campus, you must appear at the administration office at specific times (usually 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.).

What do you need to keep in mind on the day of check-in?

  • Current photo: Despite digitization, many administrations (especially at the University of Gdańsk and MUG) still require a physical photo for the resident’s card. Without this, you will not receive a key or access card to the gates (turnstiles).
  • Certificate of Insurance: An often overlooked point. Some student dormitories require confirmation of accident insurance.
  • Medical examinations (applies to MUG): Medical students accommodated in the dormitories of the Medical University of Gdańsk sometimes have to show an up-to-date sanitary-epidemiological booklet or a vaccination certificate, which results from the specificity of being in high-risk groups.

Guests and accommodation – how the regulations work in the Tri-City

Living in a student dormitory in Gdynia or Gdańsk is associated with a restrictive visiting policy. In 2026, most facilities (especially the newer Gdańsk University of Technology DS in Wrzeszcz) have electronic access control systems.

Rules for receiving guests

  1. Visiting hours: Standard from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. After this hour, every bystander must leave the building, unless you purchase the so-called “guest accommodation”.
  2. Overnight fee: If your friend wants to stay overnight, you need to report it to the concierge and pay a fee (usually 20-40 PLN per night). In the event of failure to report and detection of an unregistered person during the inspection (the so-called “raids”), you risk being immediately removed from the list of residents without returning the deposit.
  3. Guest card: Your guest must leave their ID at the concierge in exchange for a temporary entry card. Remember that you are fully financially responsible for the behavior of your guests on the Student Campus.

Gdynia Maritime University (UMG) – hidden accommodation option

Apart from AMW, the Maritime University (UMG) is a key player in Gdynia. It has two main student dormitories: DS1 and DS2, located close to the main building at Morska Street (Grabówek/Gdynia Główna).

Specifics of UMG student dormitories

  • Location: The proximity of the SKM Gdynia Grabówek station means that it takes 15 minutes to get to Sopot from here, and about 35 minutes to Gdańsk Główny.
  • Standard: These facilities underwent modernization in terms of fire safety in 2025. Rooms are usually 2-bedded and kitchens and bathrooms are shared in the hallway, which reduces costs.
  • For whom: Places are given to UMG students first, but in September there is often a pool of free places for students of other universities (e.g. UG or Gdańsk Tech). If you haven’t got a place in Gdansk, the UMG Gdynia Morska student dormitory can be your lifeline.

Smart energy meters in DS

The academic year 2026/2027 is the time when Tri-City universities massively implement Smart Metering systems. This applies mainly to the DS of the University of Gdańsk (especially DS 10) and modernized units at the University of Technology.

How will this affect your wallet?

The price of the Gdańsk University of Technology dormitory includes a lump sum for utilities, but after exceeding a certain threshold (e.g. 50 kWh per person per month), the system will charge a surcharge. This is to eliminate pathologies involving heating rooms with electric heaters or mining cryptocurrencies on free electricity. In this way, universities promote ecological attitudes, and you must make sure that you do not leave your computer or lighting on in your absence.

Room exchange and “seat exchange” – how to change location during the year?

The assignment from the USOS system does not have to be final. If you got a room in Sopot, and you have all your classes in Oliwa, you can use the so-called seat exchange.

Swap procedure

  1. Finding a partner: It is best to search on Facebook groups such as “Gdańsk University of Technology dormitories – announcements” or “DS UG – swap places”.
  2. Consent of the administration: Both individuals must go to the accommodation offices of their student dormitories and sign the exchange request. This is usually only possible in October and March.
  3. Handling Fee: Some universities charge a symbolic fee (approx. PLN 50) for updating data in MojaPG systems and changing room access codes.

Eduroam, Gates & Deposits

Tri-City dormitories in 2026 are high-tech facilities.

  • Eduroam: It’s not just the internet. Your student account allows you to use licensed software (e.g. Microsoft 365, MATLAB) directly on the link in the room for free. Speeds in DS PG reach up to 1 Gb/s, which outclasses most offers from private providers in blocks of flats in Przymorze.
  • Holiday deposits: If you plan to stay in the Tri-City for another year, check out the deposit offer. For a small fee (approx. 50-100 PLN for the whole summer), you can leave your belongings in a safe warehouse inside the DS instead of taking them to the other end of Polish.

Security: Monitoring and fire protection systems

In 2026, the security rigor in the dormitories in Gdańsk is extreme.

  • Smoke detectors: They are in every room. Covering them with foil or smoking cigarettes/e-cigarettes ends with an immediate alarm, the arrival of the fire brigade at your expense (approx. PLN 2000-5000) and disciplinary removal from the dormitory.
  • Entrance gates: Entry to DS 10 UG or DS 3 PG requires the reflection of the ELS card. The system logs every entrance and exit, which allows you to quickly establish a list of people in the building in the event of theft.

What to check before moving

  • Check the power limit in the sockets: Some older DSs in Sopot have fuses that “blow” when the kettle and dryer are turned on at the same time.
  • Figure out the refrigerator: In newer boxes, refrigerators are equipped. In older rooms at the University of Gdańsk, you must have your own or buy it from an older year (look for ads on the door of the DS as early as mid-September).
  • Invest in a water filter: The water in Gdańsk and Gdynia is drinkable, but in the old pipes of dormitories it may have a metallic aftertaste. A filter jug saves about PLN 100 per month on bottled water.
  • Resident’s card: Always carry it with you. The porters at the Gdańsk University of Technology Student Town are sensitive to people entering “on the back” of others and will not let you in without a card, even if they know your face.

Students’ questions about student dormitories in Gdansk and Gdynia

Is it possible to have pets in a dormitory in Gdańsk?

In 99% of cases – no. The regulations of the University of Gdańsk, Gdańsk Tech and MUG categorically prohibit keeping dogs, cats or rodents. The exception is fish in an aquarium with a limited capacity, but this always requires the permission of the DS manager.

What is the issue of parking in front of a dormitory in the Tri-City?

This is one of the biggest problems. The Gdańsk Tech Student Town has limited parking lots only for residents (ID required, fee approx. PLN 100-200 per semester). In Oliwa, under DS 4 and 5, finding a place borders on a miracle. It is best to give up the car in favor of SKM.

Can I get a dormitory if I study at a private university in Gdansk?

Yes, but only in the so-called “free sale”, which usually starts after October 15. Priority is always given to students of public universities. Private universities (e.g. WSB Merito) sometimes have signed agreements with specific DSs for the pool of places.

Are the dormitories in Sopot noisy for tourists?

The dormitories of the University of Gdańsk in Sopot (DS 7, 8, 9) are located close to the center. Although the buildings are protected, the area can be noisy on weekends. Inside, however, there are rules of order, and security responds to noise after 10:00 p.m. much faster than the police in private tenement houses.

Can a student from Gdynia get a dormitory in Gdańsk at Gdańsk University of Technology?

In theory, yes, but in practice, the distance between Gdynia and Gdańsk is too small to get enough points. Priority is given to people from towns more than 100-150 km away. The exception is people in a very difficult financial situation.

How much does a semester ticket for SKM cost for a resident of a dormitory?

If you have a student ID, you can buy a semester ticket for the entire MZKZG area (Gdańsk, Gdynia, Sopot + SKM/PKM). The cost for 2026 is about PLN 500-600 for 5 months, which is the cheapest option to move between Wrzeszcz, Oliwa and Gdynia.

Is it possible to live in DS University of Gdańsk during the holidays?

Yes, but the rates are then “tourist” and much higher than during the academic year. The exception is the so-called “summer action” for people working or doing internships, which requires a separate application in May.

What are the most common reasons for a dormitory application being denied?

Incorrectly calculated income, lack of a set of signatures on certificates from the Tax Office and exceeding the deadline for submitting the application in the USOS/MojaPG system. These systems close automatically and there is no way to “report” documents.

Which student residence in Gdansk is the most modern

In 2026, the highest standard is offered by DS 10 UG in Wrzeszcz and the renovated DS 3 PG. They have rooms with kitchenettes and private bathrooms, which is reminiscent of the standard of private investments such as BaseCamp.

Does the Gdańsk University of Technology dormitory price include internet?

Yes, in most PG dormitories, broadband internet (eduroam or wired network) is included in the rent. However, you must have your own Ethernet cable or a mobile device set up.

Getting a place in a dormitory in Gdańsk or Gdynia for 2026/2027 is a process that requires bureaucratic precision. Focus on timely submission of documents by MojaPG or USOSweb, reliable documentation of income and quick payment of the deposit. Remember that a dormitory is not only a saving of PLN 10,000 per year, but also a strategic location close to SKM and the campus, which is priceless in the conditions of Tri-City traffic jams.
