2. Faculty Dean’s Offices

Each faculty has its own Dean’s Office (e.g. the Dean’s Office of the Faculty of Law and Administration at 6 Bażyńskiego Street or the Dean’s Office of the Faculty of Law). It is there that you collect your ELS card, submit applications to the Dean (e.g. for IOS, resignation, dean) and deliver sick leaves.

Main Library of the University of Gdańsk (BUG) – Quiet Learning Zones and Digital Resources

The Main Library of the University of Gdańsk (BUG, 53 Wita Stwosza Street) is undoubtedly the best place to study during an exam session in the entire Tri-City.

The campus in Oliwa is perfectly connected with the rest of the agglomeration.

Token Registration System on USOSweb – How to sign up for PE, Language Courses and OGUNs?

One of the biggest surprises for 1st year students at the University of Gdańsk is the Token Registration System run on the USOSweb portal. At UG, you do not sign up for language or PE classes in the dean’s office – you receive digital “tokens” in the system, which you spend in university-wide registration baskets.

1. Registration for Physical Education (CWFiS UG)

PE classes take place at the facilities of the Center for Physical Education and Sport at 1a Bażyńskiego Street and at outdoor facilities.

  • Strategy: PE token registration opens at designated exchanges (usually in September for the winter semester and in February for the summer semester). Places for popular sections (e.g. swimming, wall climbing, yoga, table tennis) are sold out in the first 3 minutes after the opening of the exchange – you must be logged in to USOSweb exactly at the opening time!

2. Language Courses (SJO UG)

The UG Foreign Language Centre organises language courses completed with a certification exam at the B2 or C1 level.

  • Remember that you have a designated pool of language tokens (e.g. 120 hours). If you sign up for a language course and don’t sign out at the designated stock market window, the tokens are lost, and you have to pay for the next attempt out of your own pocket.

3. General University Subjects (OGUNs)

Each UG student in the course of bachelor’s or master’s studies must earn a certain number of ECTS credits (usually 6–9 ECTS) in subjects outside their main field. OGUNs allow you to broaden your horizons – a student of Chemistry can attend lectures on the History of Art, and a student of Law can attend classes on Environmental Protection.

Where to print, photocopy and scan materials on the UG Campus?

Despite widespread digitization, printing scripts, assignments and diploma theses is still a permanent element of student life.

  • Self-service printing in BUG: The Main Library of the University of Gdańsk has modern self-service terminals. You top up your library account online, send the PDF file to the printer’s server, and receive the printout on any floor of the library using the ELS card reflection.

  • Binding of diploma theses: At the point in the rotunda of the Faculty of Law and Administration (WPiA), you can immediately bind your bachelor’s or master’s thesis in rigid covers with the embossed emblem of the University of Gdańsk.

Relaxation zones, hidden patios and quiet alcoves for working between lectures

With a 2-3 hour window between lectures, you don’t have to go back to the station. The UG campus offers unique places to rest, study and eat your own meal.

1. Green Patio at the Faculty of Biology (59 Wita Stwosza Street)

It is one of the most beautiful buildings in the entire Tri-City. In the glazed main hall there is a several-meter-high palm house with exotic vegetation, large freshwater and marine aquariums with a coral reef and paleontological exhibits (skeletons of whales and mammals). Around the vegetation there are comfortable couches with electrical outlets for charging laptops.

2. Student Zone at WNS (4 Bażyńskiego Street)

The Faculty of Social Sciences has dedicated relaxation zones lined with soft bean-bags and deckchairs. There you will also find microwaves to heat your own lunch brought in a box.

Culture, Sport and Student Media on the UG Campus

Studying at the University of Gdańsk is also an opportunity to develop non-scientific passions and build a strong CV before starting your first job.

1. Academic Cultural Centre “Alternator” (ACK UG)

Located on the campus, ACK brings together a dozen or so student creative circles. The most famous are the DKF “Rotunda” Film Discussion Club (one of the oldest film studies groups in Poland) and the “Jantar” Song and Dance Ensemble.

2. Radio INDEX (Radio Studenckie UG)

It has its own, fully professional recording studio at the Faculty of Social Sciences. It recruits students of all faculties for the positions of information service technicians, sound engineers and music presenters.

3. Academic Sports Association (AZS UG)

If you are a professional or semi-professional athlete, join the AZS UG section (e.g. sailing, futsal, basketball, swimming). Participation in regular trainings and representing the university in the Polish Academic Championships (AMP) automatically exempts you from the obligatory completion of regular classes in Physical Education!
