  1. The relationship is the foundation of: Students who feel that the teacher respects, understands and genuinely cares about them are much less likely to engage in destructive behavior. Building relationships through short, one-on-one conversations, knowing students’ interests or a simple smile is an investment that always pays off.
  2. Clear rules and consistency: Students need a clear framework and predictability. Setting a few key rules together at the beginning of the year (instead of a long list of prohibitions) and then consistently enforcing them by the teacher creates a sense of security and justice.
  3. Engaging lessons: This is the most important element of prevention. A bored mind is a mind that is looking for something to do – most often outside the topic of the lesson. The more interactive, dynamic and tailored to the interests of the students, the less space is left for problems with discipline.

When thinking about AI in the context of discipline, it’s easy to fall into the trap of visions straight out of science fiction – behavioral monitoring systems or automatic punishments. It’s a dead end. The real power of AI for teachers lies in preventative action – in eliminating the root causes of bad behavior, such as boredom, frustration, and a sense of misunderstanding of the material. Instead of putting out fires, AI helps us create an environment where these fires don’t break out at all.

Boredom – the greatest enemy of discipline. How does AI help create memorable lessons?

When a lesson is fascinating, discipline becomes a secondary issue. The problem is that creating a “wow effect” in every class requires a huge amount of time and creativity, which overburdened teachers often lack. Artificial intelligence is becoming an inexhaustible generator of inspiration and a tool for creating engaging content.

Create interactive stories and storyboards: Imagine a history lesson where students not only hear about the Battle of Vienna, but take part in it. You can ask the AI to write a script for an interactive text game: “Create a scenario for a decision game in which a student takes on the role of a young hussar near Vienna. Give him 3 choices at key moments that will affect his fate.” The students, involved in the plot, forget about the whole world.

Frustration and misunderstanding – personalization as the key to peace of mind

Another powerful source of behavior problems is frustration. A student who does not understand the material feels lost and quickly becomes distracted. On the other hand, a student for whom the material is too easy gets bored and starts to get in the way. It is almost impossible to individualize teaching in a class of 30 people… without support. The student must choose three tasks in one line (as in a tic-tac-toe).” By giving choice, you build accountability and allow students to leverage their strengths.

How does AI relieve the teacher so that he can focus on relationships?

A tired, stressed, and bureaucratic teacher has far less patience and mental resources to effectively manage classroom dynamics. By taking over tedious and time-consuming tasks, AI frees up your most important resource: time and energy to build relationships, which are the foundation of discipline.

  • Automation of preparations: Instead of spending an evening creating worksheets, tests, or scenarios, you can have AI generate the first version in minutes.
  • Intelligent Communication: AI will help you quickly write a professional email to parents, prepare a summary of a meeting or write a report. Less time spent on formalities means more time for what is really important – talking and observing students.
  • Assistant in difficult situations: AI can help you prepare for a difficult conversation with a student or parent. You may want to ask, “Help me write a script for a conversation with a student who is disrupting the lesson. Focus on questions that will help me understand the reason for his behavior, not just criticism.” Having a plan reduces stress and allows you to have a more constructive conversation.

Let’s put an end to the myth that discipline is a matter of control and strength. In the 21st century, discipline is the result of commitment, understanding and respect. Artificial intelligence in education does not offer magic solutions, but it gives us extremely powerful tools to achieve these goals.

By creating fascinating, multimedia and interactive lessons, we fight boredom. By personalizing materials and tasks, we eliminate frustration. By automating routine duties, we give teachers space to build relationships. It’s a comprehensive, preventative approach that changes the dynamics of the entire classroom.

AI in Building a Sense of Community and Belonging in the Classroom

Discipline problems are rarely isolated incidents. They are often a symptom of a deeper problem – the student’s lack of sense of belonging to the group. A student who feels invisible, unappreciated, or alienated will seek attention in every possible way, including through destructive behavior.   • Class newsletter: Have AI write a short summary of the week: “Write a short, enthusiastic newsletter for parents, in which you summarize our achievements: Zosia won a recitation competition, Maciek’s group presented a project about volcanoes perfectly, and the whole class collected 10 kg of food for the shelter.” Regularly highlighting shared successes builds pride and group identity.

When students feel that they are part of something bigger, that their contribution matters, and that they form a close-knit team, the motivation to destroy that atmosphere drops drastically.

Artificial intelligence as a tool for learning self-regulation and social skills

Many students are not “rude” with premeditation. They simply lack the ability to self-regulate, control impulses, or resolve conflicts. Traditional admonitions (“Calm down!”) are ineffective here. Instead of punishing for the lack of skills, we can shape them, and artificial intelligence in schools offers a safe training environment for this.

  • Simulations and role-playing: Students can practice challenging conversations with the AI chatbot. You can create a scenario: “You are a chatbot that plays the role of a colleague who is angry because he was not selected for the team. The student’s job is to have a conversation with you, using ‘I’ messages and active listening techniques to resolve the conflict.” It is a safe “sandbox” for training social competences, without the risk of escalating a real conflict.
  • Scheduling Assistant for Students with ADHD and Executive Function Problems: Behaviors such as forgetting, lack of organization, or procrastination often result from difficulties with executive functions rather than ill will. AI can become a personal assistant to a student. Show him how he can ask the AI: “I have a 500-word essay to write. Help me break this task down into 5 smaller steps and create a work schedule for me for the week.” By giving students the tools to manage their own work, we build their independence and reduce frustration that leads to behavioral problems.

The last, but perhaps the most important piece of the puzzle is autonomy. Students who feel that they have a real impact on what and how they learn become partners in the educational process, not its subjects. Their inner motivation increases, and the need for rebellion decreases.

When students become co-authors of a lesson, they take co-responsibility for it. Their commitment is soaring, and problems with discipline are becoming rare, because no one wants to spoil the project they helped create.
