“That was definitely written by ChatGPT.” The feeling of helplessness is mixed with anger. This is the moment when technology, instead of helping, seems to destroy the foundations of education – independence and honesty.

Don’t worry, you’re not alone. This chapter is not to scare you with Artificial Intelligence.
On the contrary. I’ll show you how to turn this threat into your greatest ally step by step. You will learn how to set clear rules, teach students to use AI wisely and redesign tasks so that technology becomes a tool for deepening knowledge, not mindlessly copying it. Before we get to the specifics, let’s stop for a moment at the fundamental question: “Is it really worth spending time on this?” After all, you already have enough on your mind. The answer is yes, and this investment will more than pay off. Here’s why:
- You will regain your time and energy. Imagine AI helping you generate lesson ideas, create varied tasks for students with different needs, or prepare quizzes. By teaching students to use AI wisely, you also teach them to be more independent in the learning process. Workshop: How to do it step by step?
Let’s get to the point. Here’s a proven, 5-step process that will allow you to introduce the principles of smart use of AI in your classroom.
Step 1: Start with yourself – “Taming the Tiger”
Before you start teaching others, you need to feel confident yourself. You don’t have to be an expert, you just need to be a conscious user.
- Task for today: Open ChatGPT, Copilot, or another AI tool and play with it for 15 minutes. Ask for 5 ideas to make the lessons about the November Uprising more attractive. Ask about simplifying the definition of photosynthesis for a sixth-grader. Let the AI write a short poem about your cat. See how it works, what its limitations are and what its “style” is. Feel at ease.
Step 2: Set Clear Rules – “AI School Constitution”
Transparency is the key to success. Students need to know what is allowed and what is categorically forbidden. Organize a short lesson or workshop where you will create your class contract together. This builds responsibility and a sense of co-determination.

Step 3: Model Smart Use – “Show, Don’t Tell”
Children learn by imitation. Show them live how you use AI in a smart way.
- Example in class: Are you planning a discussion on a controversial topic? Display the AI chat window on the projector and formulate the command together: “You are an ethics expert. Give me three arguments ‘for’ and three arguments ‘against’ the construction of a nuclear power plant in Poland, referring to ecological and economic data.” Then analyze and evaluate the quality of these arguments together.
Step 4: Teach verification – “Become an AI detective”
Artificial Intelligence is prone to “hallucinations” – it can make up facts, dates, and sources with unshakable confidence. Your task is to develop in students the habit of distrust and verification.
- Simple activity: Give students AI-generated text on a topic they know well (e.g., the history of their city or the biography of a famous athlete) and ask them to find at least 3 errors or inaccuracies in it. Reward those who find them first. Establish a “dual-source” rule in the classroom: every piece of information from AI must be confirmed by at least one reliable, external source.
Step 5: Change the way you grade – “Homework 2.0”
If the homework is to write an essay based on known facts, you are asking for plagiarism. It’s time to redesign tasks so that AI becomes the starting point, not the end product.
- Instead of: “Write a description of Antigone.”
- Try: “Ask the AI to write a brief description of Antigone. Your task is to write a review of this text. Point out its strengths, point out simplifications, and add at least two arguments or quotes that you think the AI has left out that are crucial to understanding the character.”
- Other ideas: Evaluating the process, not just the effect; oral presentations, where the student has to defend their theses; tasks that require personal reflection that AI cannot simulate.
Pro-Tip: Use AI to personalize learning. Ask them to create three versions of the same math problem at different levels of difficulty. Or a list of 10 words from English with examples of use adapted to the student’s interests (e.g. computer games, horseback riding). This is a huge time saver for you and more motivation for them.
Scenarios from school life: Case Studies and good practices
Scenario 1: Ania and the biology project in grade 7.
- Problem: The students were supposed to prepare projects about ecosystems. Most of the work was boring, based on information from the first pages of Wikipedia.
- Application of the method: Ms. Ania devoted 15 minutes of the lesson to showing how AI can serve as a “creative partner”. She asked the students to ask the AI unusual questions in groups, such as “Write a story from the perspective of an earthworm living in a rainforest” or “Create a dialogue between a polar bear and a seal about global warming.”

- Result: The engaging, interactive form made the students begin to analyze the protagonist’s dilemmas. During the lesson, the discussion was much livelier, because the students had a personal, “experienced” attitude to the characters’ problems.

- The trap: Over-reliance on AI plagiarism detectors.
– Solution: They are unreliable. Instead of playing police officer, focus on tasks that AI can’t do – requiring personal reflection, creativity, and publicly defending your theses. - The trap: Assuming that all students have equal access to technology.
– Solution: Organize key tasks with AI at school, in the computer lab, to level the playing field. Emphasize that there are free tools available from the browser. - The trap: Fear of losing authority because “students know more“.
– Solution: Change the position from “omniscient sage” to “guide and co-explorer“. Admit openly: “I’m learning this too. Let’s discover it together!”
