The principle is simple: the quality of your prompt determines the quality of the AI’s response. It is not enough to write a “script about the Renaissance”. You have to become the director and the AI is your screenwriter.

“Take on the role of…“. Instead of writing as an anonymous user, tell the AI who you want it to be.

  2. Indicate the travel routes of Christopher Columbus and Ferdinand Magellan on the map.
  3. Explain why Europeans were looking for a new route to India.
  4. Give two examples of products that came to Europe from America.

Available resources: [np. Rzutnik, tablica, dostęp do internetu, mapa świata, kartki A4].

Preferred methods: [np. Praca w grupach, burza mózgów, elementy grywalizacji (punkty za zadania), krótki quiz na koniec].

Lesson structure: Propose a division into three parts:

  1. Introduction (5-7 minutes) – engaging, with a key question.
  2. Main part (30 minutes) – with specific activities for students.
  3. Summary and consolidation (5-8 minutes) – with a form of quick evaluation (e.g. exit ticket) and an idea for a voluntary activity for those who are interested.

Step 4: Critical Evaluation (1 minute)

Read more: Is the script logical? Does it fit your teaching style?
  1. Check the content: Do all the facts match? AI, especially older models, can sometimes “hallucinate” (make up information). Always verify dates, names, and key concepts.

Aim: students are able to characterize the attitude of Wokulski and Łęcka. Use the Oxford debate method. In conclusion, propose a quick reflection task to be done in pairs to test your understanding of the concepts.
  • AI Result: ChatGPT proposes a debate structure, provides a thesis, and even generates sample arguments for both sides along with quotes. To sum up, she proposes the “Think-Spare-Share” exercise: students individually think about which attitude is closer to them in 2 minutes, and then exchange arguments in pairs in 3 minutes. It works on a newer model (GPT-4) for free. It integrates well with the Bing search engine, so it can provide sources and links.

It works like a search engine on steroids. You ask a question, and he searches the internet and gives a concise answer along with a list of sources. Ideal for quick research and fact-checking.

Canva Magic Write

Integrated with the popular Canva. Great for generating short texts directly in a graphic design (e.g. on a work card or presentation).

Claude

Known for his more “human” and natural writing style. Good for creating stories, dialogues or more elaborate text forms for lessons.

Artificial intelligence will not take away your job. Instead, it will take away those parts of it that are repetitive and tiring. Treat it as your private assistant to help you design each lesson to be a complete, closed, and effective learning experience. Remember that the final decision and the “human touch” always belong to you. You know your students best.

You need to understand one key thing: ChatGPT and similar language models don’t “know” that they’re telling the truth. Their goal is to generate text that is statistically most likely to be a follow-up to your query.

This leads to a phenomenon called AI “hallucinations” – moments when the model confidently gives false information, makes up dates, names, and even scientific sources.

How to defend yourself against it?
  1. The “Trust but Check” Rule: Treat every fact you generate, especially dates, numbers, and quotes, as a hypothesis, not a given. Your knowledge and experience are the ultimate filter here. AI can say that Columbus discovered America in 1493. It will generate it smoothly and logically. Your job is to catch it.
  2. Triple check technique: If AI gives you key information that you are not 100% sure of, check it in at least two other independent sources (e.g., an encyclopedia, a reliable educational portal, a textbook).
  3. Use specialized tools: Instead of asking ChatGPT for facts, use Perplexity AI. This tool is designed to search the internet and provide answers along with active links to sources.

It acts as a synthesis of a search engine and a chatbot, which makes them much more reliable in terms of substance.

Case Study: How to turn AI error into a critical thinking lesson?

A history teacher asked AI to prepare interesting facts about ancient Egypt. One of them was the statement: “The Egyptians used small, steam-powered flying machines to transport stones in the construction of the pyramids.” Of course, this is nonsense. Instead of throwing it away, the teacher put it on the worksheet along with 4 real trivias. The students’ task was to determine in groups which statement was false and justify why. In this way, the AI error became a brilliant excuse for a lesson on source verification and a critical approach to information – a key competence in the 21st century.

Ethics in the Age of AI – What Every Teacher Needs to Keep in Mind

The use of AI in education is not only a matter of technology, but above all of ethics. Ignoring these rules can lead to serious problems.

Privacy above all:

THE GOLDEN RULE: NEVER, EVER enter any personal information of students into publicly available AI models. This applies to names, surnames, information about learning problems, judgments, family situation or even specific interests associated with the surname. This data can be used to train models, and you have no control over where they go. Instead of writing “Create a math problem for John Smith who has dyscalculia,” write: “Create a math problem tailored to a student with dyscalculia who has a problem with the multiplication table.”

The issue of copyright:

Who owns the AI-generated materials? This is a legal “grey area” that is still being formed. The current prevailing interpretation (e.g. in the US) says that content fully generated by AI is not subject to copyright protection. However, what you create is an inspired piece where prompt, selection, editing, and adaptation are your creative contributions.

Best practice:

Treat AI as a tool, not an author. You are a director, and the AI is an actor. You are responsible for the final work. You don’t have to add “Created with AI” everywhere, but be aware that thoughtlessly copying someone else’s (or generated) content can be problematic.

The “copy-paste” trap – Threat of losing style:

The biggest danger is not that AI will replace us, but that we will start to sound the same. Uncritical use of AI leads to homogenization – lessons become similar to each other, devoid of your unique style, humor, and passion. Remember that AI doesn’t have your memories, your relationships with students, and your charisma. Use it to generate raw material and then give it your own unique shape.

Personalization 2.0 – Tailor-made lessons for each student

Differentiating tasks is one thing. The real magic begins when you personalize your lessons on a deeper level.

Adapting to learning styles:

Do you have a script ready? Ask AI to create additional materials for different types of students.

  • Prompt for the visual learner: Based on the photosynthesis scenario above, propose a mind map structure and list the key elements that should be included in an infographic on the subject.
  • Prompt for the auditory: Write a short, 2-minute dialogue between the leaf and the sun, which will explain the process of photosynthesis in a simple way. The dialogue is to be played in pairs.
  • Prompt for the kinesthetician: Propose a simple movement activity for the whole class that illustrates the process of photosynthesis. Students can represent molecules of water, carbon dioxide, and the sun’s rays.

Story Customization (Safely):

AI can create tasks embedded in your students’ world of interest, which dramatically increases engagement.

  • Prompt: Create 3 Grade 4 Math Text Problems for Calculating Time and Distance. Set them in the Minecraft universe and use characters like Steve and Creeper. The problem is supposed to be about collecting blocks of flats and building a shelter before the night. The teacher in the class can then add flavor by saying, “Okay, now let’s help Steve, our Paweł, build this tower!”

  • Act as a cross between Elon Musk and Maria Skłodowska-Curie. Generate 10 absolutely crazy, custom and futuristic ideas for a school project on renewable energy. There are no budgetary or technological constraints at this stage. Out of ten crazy ideas, one may turn out to be brilliant if properly realistic. It’s a powerful tool for breaking the routine.
